Integrated Assessment and Treatment of Dual Diagnosis Disorders
Co-occurrence of substance use disorders and mental illness is prevalent. Not only can comorbid mental health issues worsen the severity of substance abuse and vice versa, these dual diagnoses can serve as significant barriers to accessible and effective treatment. It greatly benefits treatment providers to comprehensively assess and treat dual diagnosis disorders concurrently to maximize positive outcomes. In this presentation, Dr. David Hu and Dr. Tammy Malloy provide an overview of the statistics on co-occurring disorders, and outline their integrated medical, psychiatric and clinical approach to evaluation and treatment of patients with dual diagnoses.
